It may keep you close to an alarm, or even monitor your sleep quality for health purposes. However, your cell phone is not a good sleep companion! In addition to bedtime, your phone hurts you during the day in more ways than you realize.

1. Sleep with it
A cell phone is basically an electromagnetic transmitter and receiver. This means that it emits radio waves. Although it’s not yet proven, research continues to show how waves can affect your brain after hours of exposure. You can wake up with notifications during your sleep cycle, at the very least. If it is impossible to completely turn it off or keep it in another room while you sleep, try keeping it in airplane mode.
2. Exposure to blue light for a long time
The light from your screen blocks melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep cycle, which is another reason why you shouldn’t be close to it during sleep. Blue light also causes eye and sight problems. Try to reset the lighting levels on your phone and turn on the blue light filter.
3. Use it with a low signal
When you see a weak signal on your phone, this actually means that your phone outputs a stronger signal as a transmitter, and more energy from your cell phone means more harm to your health. Dr. Devra Davis, author of “Disconnecting: The Truth About Cellular Phone Radiation, What The Industry Is Doing To Cover It, And How To Protect Your Family” recommends using a landline or to keep the phone as far away from you as possible when the signal is low. It also causes your phone to overheat, which is another danger.
4. Keep it in touch with your skin
There are many studies focusing on the relationship between cell phones and cancer, specifically the transmission signal of about 900 MHz, which makes your phone hot. Your skin easily absorbs heat in small portions each time keeping it close to your body. Although there are no other proven effects of radio-frequency radiation on the human body, we do know the fact that the absorption ratio decreases dramatically when you keep some distance between you and your phone.
Try to use headphones or a speakerphone while talking on your cell, to prevent it from touching you and if you are not using it, leave it away from you for minimal exposure.
5. Looking at the screen with a bad posture
It is a well-known fact that using cell phones causes thumb injuries such as tendon sheath inflammation. There is another health condition for a cell phone called “text neck”. As the name implies, when your neck bends forward to look at the screen, pressure on the cervical spine gradually increases.
